Training

Safety for everyone participating in the Hunter Valley Abseiling Adventure is paramount at all times. From experience gained after teaching a large number of people, we always start on the sloping ground rather than a cliff this ensures you will have a good understanding of abseil equipment and procedures before stepping over the edge.

An abseil guide is helping a women over the cliff for the first time.
First time jitters

Your First Time

Remember we want you to have a good experience, not a terrifying one. So with training completed, its time to tackle the cliff and step backwards over the edge -twenty meters of a sheer vertical rock wall located deep in the spectacular Watagans National Park. Abseiling is an experience like no other-its guaranteed to get your heart racing and adrenaline pumping.

Relax with time

Multiple Goes

There is more than enough time for you to have multiple abseils. You will improve your skills every time you go down. As your nerves and fear subside, you will be able to practice jumping and then drop your way to the bottom rather than walking down. Eventually, we would like to see you up on the Mega drop on your next outing with Walking Rivers.

Our abseiling activities are always done in the Watagan’s National Park, which is approx. a 30 minute drive south west from Newcastle NSW.

Priceless information

  • Nearly every person who comes out with us has never abseiled before.
  • Being moderately fit does help you. Walking along the track back to the top of the cliff requires a small effort on your part.
  • We have had people from a full range of ages, young children as well as older adults.
