RAFT TULLOCH ARD GORGE, SNOWY RIVER
Rafting down Tulloch Ard Gorge, Snowy River — An Unforgettable Experience
There are adventure days, and then there are truly legendary adventure days. Consequently, rafting Tulloch Ard Gorge Snowy River firmly lands in that exalted second category. Moreover, this isn’t just another weekend paddle — it’s an immersive expedition and a heart-thumping journey through one of Australia’s wildest corners.
Nestled deep within the Snowy Mountains, the Tulloch Ard Gorge is raw, remote, and utterly breathtaking.
Furthermore, towering granite walls rise on either side, framing the river as it travels through the ancient wilderness. Meanwhile, the soundscape is alive: the thunderous rush of rapids interspersed with the piercing cry of a wedge‑tailed eagle overhead. As a result, every stroke of your paddle feels like your part of a grander story unfolding.
Then come the rapids. In particular, Tulloch Ard serves up a thrilling blend of Class III and IV challenges, complete with tight technical chutes and heart‑leaping drops that will keep even the most experienced paddler fully engaged.
However, between these bursts of whitewater excitement lie serene stretches where the current softens, the bush closes in, and you can inhale the pure, unspoiled beauty of the region.
On the last trip, we launched just after the first light when mist still clung to the river’s surface, and the world felt hushed. Moreover, swollen by late‑season snowmelt, the Snowy had transformed overnight into a powerful, fast‑flowing force—our guide aptly dubbed “perfect conditions.” By midday, we were soaked through, grinning from ear to ear, and utterly in tune—not only with our fellow paddlers but with the heartbeat of the river itself.
Above all else, if you’re craving an adventure that tests your mettle and rewards you with soul‑stirring vistas, Tulloch Ard Gorge Snowy River should be at the top of your list. Nevertheless, be forewarned: once the Snowy gets under your skin, you’ll be back for more—because one run is never enough.
In the unlikely event your booking can not proceed on the Snowy River, we have a fall back option of paddling the Nymboida River. Both river trips are for the same duration.

Day one, driving to the Tulloch Ard Snowy River Rafng Adventure start
First and foremost, we recognise that we must remain flexible when conducting our Tulloch Ard Snowy River rafting Adventure.
We recognise that you may be flying in from another city and we are picking you up from an airport. Alternatively, you may be travelling with us in our vehicle from Newcastle, Sydney, or Canberra.
Taking the above into consideration, we will adjust our meeting and pick-up times to ensure that we arrive at the first campsite by midday or shortly after.
Day two,— Entering the Wild
First and foremost, we have a hearty breakfast at McKillops Bridge before leaving in the rafts.
Consequently, as you slip into the raft and push off, the bustle of everyday life dissolves in the mist.
The river starts out mild and welcoming—Class II—giving you time to settle into the paddling rhythm. Meanwhile, towering eucalypts lean over the banks and wedge‑tailed eagles wheel overhead, setting the stage for the grand gorge ahead.
By late afternoon, we beach on a river bend, pitch tents, and share our first campfire meal beneath a blanket of stars.
Day three — Whitewater and Granite Canyons
The next morning brings the real test.
As we paddle into the narrowing walls of Tulloch Ard Gorge, the Snowy wakes up—unleashing a sequence of Class III–IV rapids. Rapids with names that hint at their ferocity: “Devil’s Cauldron,” “Squeeze Box,” and “The Churn.”
However, our expert guides coach you through every turn, teaching you how to read the river’s secrets. In between the chaos, the current mellows, offering glassy pools where you can dip your paddle and catch your breath.
That evening, you’ll fall asleep to the lullaby of flowing water, feeling more alive than ever.
Day four— Deep Wilderness and Sacred Stillness
Then, on day three, the pace shifts.
Although there are still a few technical rapids, much of the day is spent drifting through cathedral‑like corridors of granite.
Notably, we stop for a side hike to a waterfall—cliffs plummeting to the ribbon of whitewater below. Afterwards, we cool off in a hidden pool beneath a waterfall.
Once night falls, we camp on a sandy beach deep in the gorge, cooking over an open fire and exchanging stories in the glow of embers.
Day five — The Final Push
Finally, the last morning greets us with one more burst of rapids—an exhilarating finale that tests everything you’ve learned.
As the river relaxes near Buchan, you’ll feel a bittersweet sense of accomplishment: relief that you’ve conquered the gorge, and longing that it’s over. Ultimately, you emerge on dry land transformed—charged by the river’s power and soothed by its timeless beauty.
Day six, driving home day

However, due to the number of variables in wilderness travel we recommend that you don’t plan any critical appointments that rely on us being back at this time.
