The Snowy River stretches over 500 kilometres, winding through the Snowy Mountains and creating some seriously stunning views.

Plus, the water comes from melting snow, rain and releases from Jindabyne dam, making it super important for all the plants and animals in the area.

The river’s mix of calm pools and wild rapids draws in people wanting to soak up the incredible beauty of nature.

Combining camping and rafting

The ultimate Snowy River experience is when you combine camping and rafting into a multi-day adventure. To begin with, we start all our journeys by setting up camp near the river’s edge, where you can wake up to the soothing sounds of flowing water and birdsong. Next, spend your days navigating the river’s many rapids, stopping at scenic spots for lunch and refreshing swims.

Moreover, multi-day rafting trips often include overnight stays at remote campsites accessible only by water. These trips not only provide a unique opportunity to disconnect from the hustle of daily life but also allow you to fully embrace the wilderness. Imagine, for instance, sharing stories around a campfire under a blanket of stars, with the river’s gentle current lulling you to sleep.

Key points, about our camping

  • Camp right beside the river
  • Reconnect with nature
  • Relaxing environments
  • Go to sleep hearing natural sounds
  • Diverse Menu

RAFTING TRIP ITINERARY

Tasks prior to the trip

In an email, you will receive a list of things to pack.

Then roughly one week before departure:

First, we make a brief phone call to everyone who has reserved the Snowy River Kayak Adventure with us.

Second, after the introductions, your guide will ensure we are all on the same page and cover any important last-minute information.

Thirdly, we’ll review and confirm everyone’s pick-up and departure times.

Day one, driving to the start

First and foremost, we recognise that we must remain flexible when conducting our Snowy River whitewater rafting tours.

We recognise that you may be flying in from another city and we are picking you up from an airport. Alternatively, you may be travelling with us in our vehicle from Newcastle, Sydney, or Canberra.

Taking the above into consideration, we will adjust our meeting and pick-up times to ensure that we arrive at the first campsite by midday or shortly after.

When the camp setup is complete, guides will prepare a delicious evening meal and entertain you with river stories.

Day two, the first paddling day

Rise and shine, and prepare for a day of fun and adventure.

After breakfast, we pack up the campsite and prepare to head out onto the river.

We will conduct training on shore first, ensuring everyone understands what is expected.

Finally, once on the water and in the rafts, we teach and allow you to practice skills you’ll need to paddle the Snowy River whitewater rafting journey.

People who have previous experience can use this time to review their skills. Others who are just getting started can see how simple rafting is.

Day three, you are starting to get the idea

If you require help, the guides are always available. On the positive side, by now, you should be paddling your raft independently.  Significantly, you get to choose where you want to paddle.

Within the top Snowy River rafting experience, each rapid becomes its own personal challenge and adventure.

You may expect to paddle around 4 to 5 hours each day each day,. These means you will have ample opportunity to linger, relax, and enjoy the trip.

Day four, you should have a routine

Wake up whenever you want.

Day five, sadly our last paddling day

Many people are about waking up early, while others want to catch some extra Zs. It’s your vacation, and we want the day to be all about you. We’re just going with the flow; there’s no strict schedule here. You’ve got loads of time today to check out the famous Mckillops Bridge, one of those iconic spots in Australia with a fantastic history.

Notably, we aim to stop paddling around midday.

Then after lunch, with your help, we need the entire afternoon to get the rafts and equipment back onto the trailer ready for the drive home.

To clarify, we spend another night camping along the river before starting the long drive home.

Day six, driving home day

Our approximate return arrival time in Newcastle is between 5 -7 pm.

However, due to the number of variables in wilderness travel we recommend that you don’t plan any critical appointments that rely on us being back at this time.

Fixed times and dates can cause unnecessarily stressful complications should our return be delayed by something out of our control.

Please feel free to contact us if you would like to discuss your travel plans in more detail.
